Safeguarding

Safeguarding is a comprehensive approach that aims to protect children from harm, prevent impairment to their mental and physical development, and ensure they live in environments that are safe and nurturing. This proactive approach includes strategies such as early responses, risk assessment, education, policies, and procedures, all designed to create an atmosphere where individuals can thrive while enjoying their rights to safety, security, and well-being.

At Nelson Primary School, the safety and well-being of our pupils are of paramount importance. We therefore

  •          practice early intervention,
  •          use robust procedures and policies,
  •          adopt a culture of zero tolerance to all forms of abuse and harm including banter,
  •          take all disclosures seriously,
  •          understand that all safeguarding concerns can occur in our school
  •          encourage a speak out attitude and
  •          provide a listening culture for both staff and children.

We have an anonymous reporting system in school and worry boxes / friends in every classroom.

We fully recognise the contribution all adults make in keeping our children safe and expect our staff, visitors and parents to share in this commitment.
