Operation Encompass

Operation Encompass is a unique partnership between law enforcement and education. Its primary goal is to provide timely support to children and young individuals encountering domestic abuse.

How Does It Work?

After the police respond to a domestic abuse incident, relevant information is shared with the school's DSL before the next school day begins. This early sharing of information allows the school to offer immediate support tailored to the child's specific needs and preferences.

Why Is It Crucial?

Children exposed to domestic abuse are significantly impacted, experiencing emotional, physical, and psychological harm. Such exposure is recognized as an Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE), and can have lasting harmful effects. Operation Encompass aims to reduce this harm by informing key professionals of the need for support as early as possible. This ensures that children who witness or are subjected to police-attended domestic abuse incidents receive timely support within the school environment.
