Welcome back to a new term!
We hope that you and your child had a lovely Easter break. We are looking forward to an exciting term ahead in Year One. Please read this letter carefully as it is designed to give you information about the curriculum this term, some general information and useful dates for your diary.
Curriculum
Attached to this letter is a curriculum map, which provides an overview of our learning focus for this half term. Our main topic for this half term is “Seeds, soil and sunshine” and “Oh! I do like to be beside the seaside!” for the second half term. As part of our topics, we have arranged a trip to Painshill park and a Year 1 “Seaside day” in school, more information to follow.
Phonics and reading
In June, children will have the phonics screening check. It takes place one to one, but the children will largely be unaware of it being a test and have already participated in some practice ones. Phonics works best when children are given plenty of encouragement and learn to enjoy reading and books. Parents play a very important part in helping with this.
School Uniform and P.E Kits
Please ensure that your child’s school uniform and P.E kit is clearly labelled. This is particularly important as weather is getting hotter and children will take off hoodies and jumpers.
If you have any queries regarding any of the information in this letter, please do not hesitate to ask. We look forward to working closely with you to ensure that your child enjoys a happy and successful summer term.
Homework
Please continue to read with your child throughout the week and note in their reading records that they have read their book to you. As well as this, all children should have a username and password for ‘Numbots’ (found on seesaw), this is a home learning tool for the children to practice their maths.
Best wishes from the Year 1 Team
