WELCOME TO YEAR TWO!

Dear Year Two Parents and Carers,

Below you will find information about the curriculum this term, some general information and useful dates for your diary.

 Reading

Our aim is to inspire confident, fluent and independent readers who develop a genuine love of books. In Year 2, we will be diving into the exciting world of George’s Marvellous Medicine to support our English learning, alongside Ada Twist, Scientist, which will help us strengthen our writing by applying our growing grammar knowledge. We encourage you to continue sharing stories at home, talking about what is happening in the pictures, asking thoughtful questions, and predicting what might happen next. Reading together is a powerful way to spark curiosity and imagination. If you would like advice on books that are suitable and engaging for Year 2 children, please don’t hesitate to speak to your child’s class teacher, who will be happy to offer guidance.

Curriculum

Attached to this letter is a curriculum map, which provides an overview of our learning focus for this half term.

 Homework

As our homework policy has changed, homework is now compulsory for all children. Daily reading is an essential part of this and should take place for a short time each day. This can include Little Wandle books, library books, books linked to your child’s interests, or even a variety of reading materials such as comics, recipes, or instructions, the more varied, the better! Please remember to sign and date your child’s reading record each time they read.

In addition, children should complete Numbots three times a week for approximately 10 minutes per session. We will also be sending home spelling homework linked to what is being taught in class (for example, suffixes). Some children will also receive handwriting practice to help develop correct letter formation and presentation. Occasionally, children may receive extra maths tasks or creative homework, such as art projects, to further support their learning.

 School Uniform and P.E Kits

Please ensure your child wears the correct PE kit, including appropriate tracksuit bottoms or leggings and their school PE top. On PE days, children should continue to come to school dressed in their PE kit and wear suitable footwear for physical activity.

It is very important that all school uniform and PE kit items are clearly labelled. This is especially helpful for jumpers and cardigans, as clothing can easily become mixed up or misplaced.

As part of our outdoor uniform, children must also have a raincoat and a pair of wellington boots kept in the classroom. This ensures they are fully prepared for outdoor play in all weathers. Full details can be found on our school uniform poster.
